All our men's vegan sneakers are designed in a small family workshop on a human scale and with multi-generational know-how in the north of Portugal. The workshop employees assemble our sneakers by hand, for optimal quality and resistance.

A vegan men's sneaker made from ecological materials

Making a trendy low-top sneaker from recycled wine waste: a crazy bet that we chose to take with the Topsy, the eco-responsible shoe par excellence. Years of research and development have made it possible to find THE formula for designing a more real-than-life imitation leather with grape marc as the main base, combined with recycled polyester.

This manufacturing process follows several very specific steps: grape harvesting, juice extraction, recovery of grape marc, grinding of residues, etc. The mixture obtained is then mixed with vegetable oils and synthetic materials, spread, textured and then tinted, until a material is obtained that is ready to be cut and used for the outer covering of our men's vegan shoe.

But the other elements that make up the Topsy are not left out. At COG, we choose to use ecological and recycled solutions as much as possible. To do this, we surround ourselves with the best suppliers and production houses of materials from Spain, Portugal and Italy, which offer us a whole range of eco-responsible solutions to produce our shoes:

Plastic bottles fished out of the Mediterranean and then reused are used for the interior lining.

Cork and recycled plastic fibers are carefully assembled for the insole.

The outsole is made from 30% recycled rubber.

Finally, recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is used to weave the laces.

To go all the way with this eco-responsible approach in our production method, we have also chosen to entrust the manufacturing of our men's vegan sneakers to small family workshops located in the north of Portugal. With us, no sneakers of untraceable origin, made of polluting materials from the four corners of the world. COG is proud to produce close to home, in Europe, thus limiting CO2 emissions linked to transport.

Comfortable to wear, easy to maintain

Our men's vegan sneakers are not designed to be machine washed, because despite the resistance of the materials and seams of our models, the drum could damage the fibers, and the washing temperature could alter the resistance of the water-based glues used in the assembly of the different parts of our shoes.

To maintain your Topsy, we recommend using a damp cloth to gently rub the outer part - the upper - of the shoes. Then, let them air dry, avoiding exposing them to too much sunlight, as this could damage the colours. To maintain the imitation nubuck parts, we recommend rubbing in circles using a crepe brush or a soft-bristled brush.

To give your insoles a new lease of life, remove them from your sneakers, pour a few spoonfuls of baking soda on top of the sole, then place it all in an airtight bag. After a few hours, shake the insoles to remove the powder, and place them back in your vegan men's shoes.

Topsy men's vegan shoe: a name full of history

The name of our Topsy model is inspired by an elephant born in Asia at the end of the 19th century. Sent to the United States, she lived most of her life in New York where she was used to perform in circuses, performances during which she was subjected to numerous abuses.

One day, when a trainer tries to make her eat a lit cigarette, Topsy fights back and kills her attacker. As punishment for her act, she is sentenced to die by electrocution at Coney Island on January 4, 1903.

By giving the name Topsy to a men's vegan shoe, COG pays tribute to the elephant and wishes to denounce animal abuse, of which she has become a true symbol. Labeled PETA APPROVED VEGAN, our shoe is made without any material of animal origin, and therefore without any cruelty.
