Around the brand
Founded in 2018, we are a French shoe brand committed to offering items in eclectic styles, ranging from the retro tennis, to the classic Richelieu. Their common characteristic is that they are all manufactured using processes that exclude animal exploitation, and also respect a manufacturing charter. philanthropist And ecological. Also, all our models are vegan, products in Portugal, composed of materials developed in Europe, and the result of eco-responsible production. COG's DNA fingerprint : advocating for respect for life through shoes resolutely ethical, but without sacrificing anything to style.
An article vegan is a product whose composition – materials and manufacturing methods combined – uses no elements of animal origin and does not participate in any form of exploitation or mistreatment. Our commitment to strictly adhering to this condition in each phase of our design development has earned our brand approval PETA Approved Vegan.
Involved in a responsible approach, Our production charter is based on criteria that respect living beings in the broadest sense. That's why, in addition to not using any animal-derived materials, it is fundamental for us to work with partners considering their employees by offering them a working environment conducive to their well-being, through good sanitary conditions, respect for established safety standards, as well as a decent salary and working hours. All our models They are thus made in Portugal, in the Porto region, in a workshop that provides these good working conditions. Beyond human considerations, our approach is also ecological and responsible because we take care to limit the impact that the manufacture of our models can have on the environment.
Also, the geographical proximity between Portugal and France and the less significant carbon emissions involved in transporting goods from one territory to the other, is an additional reason that motivated the choice to produce in this country. Our materials They are also made in Europe (in Italy and Spain) and composed of recycled materials, from a circular and sustainable economy.
The main argument in favor of using environmentally friendly materials in the manufacturing of our shoes is undoubtedly the fact that they are free from animal-derived materials. Indeed, between the methane and CO2 emissions generated by livestock farming—particularly pollution from animal waste—the deforestation required to plant grain for animal feed, and the water consumption associated with livestock farming, leather production is incomparably more polluting than our similar materials. Moreover, before being usable as leather, hides must undergo a tanning process, often involving mineral and chemical processes that are extremely polluting. Furthermore, 90% of global leather production is outsourced to Asia, while the animals are primarily raised in Latin America; all these intercontinental transport flows—which our production avoids—also generate significant carbon emissions. Therefore, to meet the expectations of customers accustomed to the look and feel of leather, we use leather-like materials that are not subject to these production constraints, and are also manufactured using environmentally friendly methods: - suppliers promoting a circular economy by reusing material scraps or waste materials; - processes that use less water; - use of recycled materials, such as... textiles made from plastic bottles. For example, all the linings of our shoes are made from recycled materials; the same is true for our soles, which are made from partially recycled rubber. Finally, all COG shoes are produced in Portugal and use European materials certified OEKO-TEX 100, V-Label, INESCOP, Italians and Spaniards, countries whose geographical proximity to France guarantees lower transport emissions.
Concerned about preserve the environment, we strive to introduce ever more natural and recycled materials to our models. Over the years, we have selected several plant-based materials for the upholstery of several of our models: rain marc, repurposed inedible cereals, the use of plant-based solutions allows us to avoid the waste of natural raw materials and to limit the use of synthetic materials as much as possible.
Our insoles, meanwhile, are made of recycled cork, and our laces and inner linings are made of plastic bottles - mostly caught in the Mediterranean - revalued. Depending on the characteristics specific to each model and its color variations, our shoes are also made of synthetic materials such as polyester, polyurethane, microfibers (from the circular economy), rubber, but also of natural materials such as cotton.
Committed to responsible production practices and mindful of environmental protection, we prioritize sustainable materials produced in Europe to minimize carbon emissions. All the materials we use meet the European OEKO-TEX 100 standard (textiles guaranteed free of substances harmful to the body and the environment) and are all certified hypoallergenic, breathable, odor-resistant, and abrasion-resistant.
Currently, all our models and packaging are produced in the Porto region in small family workshops in Portugal, a region renowned for its expertise in shoemaking.
The reasons for this choice are numerous. We want to make a vegan shoe accessible to our customers, but also one produced according to a ethical charter respectful of workers in charge of the production of our products, ensuring their comfort, safety, and a fair wage. We also strive to have our collections manufactured in a geographical area close to France to minimize the carbon footprint associated with shipping our goods. Finally, while we are committed to a virtuous and responsible production model, we want our shoes to be sold at a price that, while valuing skilled European labor, remains affordable. The Portuguese manufacturing environment meets all these conditions in addition to to offer world-renowned traditional expertise in the shoe industry.
Although production based in France symbolizes an attractive development path that we could aspire to in the long term (lower carbon emissions, recognition of the work of local artisans, etc.), this production location would not currently allow us to be in line with our ethical-economic model. Indeed, manufacturing in France would entail production costs, which, passed on to the product's selling price, would force us to offer our items at a high and potentially prohibitive price. However, if our goal is to democratize responsible consumption, we believe it's essential to offer the public a solution that remains financially accessible. Manufacturing in Portugal allows us to strike a balance between ethical production and reasonable pricing. Furthermore, given that the French footwear market has unfortunately declined in recent decades, it would now be technically difficult, if not impossible, to produce some of our models in France.
Because we're nice and our shoes are stylish, obviously! ^^ More seriously, fitting COG, It's about treating yourself to a pair of designer shoes while embodying the values of a committed brand, founded on the desire to protect nature and to give living beings the place they deserve. Furthermore, we aspire to supporting shelters involved in rescuing abandoned animals or those who have suffered from precarious living conditions, by sharing a portion of our proceeds with them. Also, through the purchase of your COG shoes, you are participating in a decidedly human project. With our models on your feet, we can't guarantee that you'll run faster, let alone float on water (if that happens, be sure to share a selfie with us ^^), however, what we promise you is that wearing COG means giving yourself the luxury of being able to walk with a light step, and with a free conscience to offer this world the most beautiful image of what fashion has to offer in terms of sensitivity.

To maintain your pair of COG, Nothing could be simpler! Use a slightly damp cloth and rub gently. Then let your shoes air dry, taking care not to expose them to direct sunlight to prevent the color from fading. For the care of the imitation nubuck parts, our Alan brown nubuck For example, we recommend using a soft-bristled brush or a crepe brush. Avoid all abrasive products because, although we haven't tested our materials with every specialized cleaning spray on the market, some, particularly corrosive ones, can damage the softness and quality of the materials. Therefore, we do not recommend using this type of product unless advised by a knowledgeable shoemaker familiar with the qualities of our nubuck-like materials. A little tip: To freshen up the inside of your shoes, you can remove the insoles of your sneakers and sprinkle them with a little baking soda, or place a thin layer in your dress shoes. Baking soda has absorbent properties. Place the removable insoles and baking soda in an airtight bag for a few hours, then remove the powder by shaking the insoles before putting them back in your shoes. You can also gently rub your insoles with a soft cloth dampened with a little soapy water. However, make sure the insoles are completely dry before putting them back in your shoes. Please note: Our shoes are not machine washable.
All our models are made of water-repellent materials, and although they're not designed for jumping in puddles, you can wear them in the rain without any problem. Tested and approved ;)
Our models are currently available in sizes ranging from 35 to 46. Unfortunately, we are currently unable to produce soles and shoe lasts in sizes not offered by our suppliers. This would entail significant production costs for each new size and model, which our brand is not currently able to bear. However, we are keeping this in mind, and in our research to develop new models, we always consider the availability of both smaller and larger sizes. Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to serving even more of you.
